What is Maximum Aerobic Speed?

Maximum Aerobic Speed is the lowest running speed associated with maximal oxygen uptake. Coaches can use it to prescribe individual running speeds rather than applying the same target to an entire squad.

Different tests can produce different MAS estimates. Repeat the same testing method under similar conditions when monitoring progress.

Which test should I choose?

Beep Test

A practical option when the 20 m progressive shuttle test is already part of an athlete testing battery.

Yo-Yo IR1

Useful for intermittent field and court athletes because of its repeated shuttle and recovery structure.

Bronco

A simple running test requiring minimal setup and commonly used in field-sport environments.
